What are Lactonic Fragrance notes?
They are a family of aroma chemicals (lactones) that evoke the smell of milk, cream and stone fruits like peaches & apricots, They have a silky velvety texture. These notes provide a human element to home fragrance, a soft skin like warmth that feels more organic and less synthetic then traditional aire freshners.
The psychology of creamy scents: Why they comfort us
Th e answer lies in biological nostalgia. the scent of milk is our first olfactory memory of safety and nourishment.
While citrus energises and lavender calms, lactonic scents nurture and create an environment of slow living. You aren't jut scenting a room you are signaling to your nervous system that it's safe to rest.

A Maker's Technical Note: Mastering Lactonic Formulations
The Wick Clogging Challenge
Lactonic chemicals are often heavy and can physically weigh down a cotton wick. If you find your candle flame drowning specifically with milky scents its likely that the heavy molecules are carbonising at the tip of the wick rather than vaporising, This can be fixed by one step, or switch to a high tensionsick that can generate enough heat to fully break down thr oils.
Achieving the lift (Top-Note Carriers)
A common complaint is that lactonic fragrances smell incredible in the jar (Cold throw) but seem to disappear when lit (Heat throw). To fix this you need a a carrier molecule to help pull the creaminess in the air. Blend your lactonic base with a lifting top not e.g for Oat/ Cereal scents add 5% Bergamot or Cadamom. These molecules will act as a vehicle to distribute the scent across the room more effectively.
Yellowing Issue
Due to high amounts of vanillin or Ethyl vanillin many creamy based oils may turn white candles a custard yellow, as they oxidise overtime. you can solve this issue by storing in amber coloured bottles to hide natural colour shift if offering as oils. For candles and wax melts use a vanillin stabiliser to maintain the colour.
